Pine Room Show Canceled !!!

Hello all.  Sorry for the really short notice, but the Pine Room show tonight is canceled.  One of the Tones is out town, and two have manged to get really sick, which puts us down to unmanageable band levels.  Not sure if there will be music at the Pine Room tonight or not.  We're calling around, trying to find some potential replacements.

See everyone in 2008.

Winter Hiatus

The Bloomingtones are essentially on a winter hiatus except for our regulaly scheduled monthly show at the Hospitality House on the 2nd Monday.

However, Ginger has finished her 2nd solo CD and has copies available for sale for those interested.  You can send her an email here or visit Ginger Curry - "My Heart is Open" to hear some samples, read the lyrics, and get yourself a copy (soon to be available on CD Baby as well).  Gingercd2 She spent a week in Nashville this fall with multi-grammy nominated producer Fred Bogert recording her latest songs.  You can also see what is going on with her at Ginger Curry's Website, although she is notorious for not keeping it updated.  That's all for now.  Check back occasionally for updates this winter, and if you are on our mailing list we will be sure to notify all of upcoming shows. -- Scot

Little Grantville Fall Bluegrass Festival

We had a great time at the 1st Annual Little Grantville Fall Bluegrass Festival put on by Gary Grant.  Wish we could have arrived earlier and had more time to hang out.  Maybe at the Spring Festival next June.  A great location just east of Bedford with a very nice stage and natural shaded amphitheatre for fans to sit and enjoy the music.  If it rains, the stage is covered or things can relocate into the adjoining large barn.  I've attached a couple of pictures taken from the audience during our set.  http://www.kiva.net/~cowpie9 for future events at Little Grantville. -- Scot

Bean Blossom June 2005

While Janssen and Nicole were out at Telluride, I was spending most of the week out at Bean Blossom (the Bean) in Indinan at the 39th Annual Bill Monroe Bluegrass Festival 11-18 June 2005.  I'm not the computer geek that Janssen is so I am just getting around pulling the images off my digital camera and updating with a post.  I've only upped a few pics so far, mostly mandolin specific, but I've got about 200 total.Thedarlins_bb2005  Here is one of the The Dillards (aka The Darlins), Rodney and Doug Dillard.  Click here for the full photo album. Telluride Saturday Afternoon

Well, Friday night was exciting!  After resting up Friday evening, we returned to the main stage to see Jewel.  I know what you're thinking.  Jewel isn't bluegrass, country, or even acoustic anymore.  Well I have to say she had one of the most acoustic sets yet.  Just her and a guitar.  She played a LOT of her first album, and treated the crowd to some hearty yodeling as well!  After Jewel, we were nearly trampelled by lots of Yonder Mountain String band fans, doing what I like to refer to as the "hippie-two-step".  We retreated back to our tents, and prepared for "Nightgrass", which is located at some of the venues in town.  We saw King Wilkie and Peter Rowan, and hung out with a few of the guys from King Wilkie after the show.  Jake, their current upright bass player, told us of a hot show to checkout today in town at the workshop tent.  It was an old-time round-up with all the girls from Uncle Earl, half the guys from King Wilkie, and a special appearance by Chris Thiele of Nickel Creek.  They played lots of amazing OLD-time music, doing some great Carter songs, fiddle tunes, etc.  They also started up a square-dance (or some kind of dancing circle).  I think that this old-time performance  was the highlight of the fest so far for me.  They even closed with an old Monroe Brothers tune.  I've posted some more pics from last night and this morning.  Tonight, still to come..... Gil and Dave!!!!  I can't wait...

Greetings from Telluride, CO

Thursday afternoon....

Well, it took us many days of travel, but Nicole and I have arrived at Telluride, and are having a jolly good time.  Today, the highlights were the Wilders and Split Lip Rayfield, of which we have a couple pics posted. (Notice the upright bass in Split Lip Rayfield...it's an actual gas tank).  Later tonight, we still have Emmylou Harris and Wilco to look forward to.  As the fest goes on, we'll post more.  Until then....

Indiana Wine Fair at Story

Toneatpineroomcroppaint Burr... It was windy and cold for the most part but the turn out was great.  We had a bit of a chance to sample a few of the wonderful Indiana Wines, but not enough.  We were playing our first show with our guest fiddler, Richard Torstrick.  We had not had a chance to get together and run through any tunes, but did pass Richard a setlist.  What an amazing Bluegrass fiddler.  It was great to play with a fiddle in the band again and we hope to have Richard along at some future events, so keep your eyes open.  Played a total of about 2 hours.  Mark and Richard were tearing it up despite the cold.  I was just getting over a bought of the Flu and my lungs were still conjested and I was a veritable Snot Factory.  Which normally wouldnt be an issue with Ginger there, but since Ginger was outta town I was supposed to sing a bit more.  It failed me a few times on harmony parts, but held up when I had the lead, thank goodness.  The fingers werent cooperating though.  All in all a decent experience.  We had a few times when the sun peeked through and warmed things up a bit, but for the most part just a bit too cold and windy for my liking.  For those that turned out to see us, I hope you enjoyed it.  The wine probably helped tremendously.  See ya'll soon and thanks fer listenin'.--- Scot

Dec 4th, 04 - Dave's Wedding

Davesweddingpic  Played for Dave and Teresa's wedding on December 4th.  A pretty good time had by all.  Hightlight was Dave's rendition of Man of Constant Sorrow, to his wife's utter delight!?!?  Played two sets total.  We have nothing booked at this time until next year in February, so if you need a band for an event, give us a call or drop and email.  We're pretty cheap.  Might work on some tunes for a long overdue CD, when we can figure out where our fiddler is at??  There are a few pics in the Photo Album to the left (Daves Wedding Photos)

O' Kathleeeeeennnn!!!  If anyone has seen this person...  ....please contact us or at least tell her to write home.Kathleen

Wedding

Played an wonderful wedding on 23 October. Outside it was raining buckets, but inside it looks like a forest setting in the prime of fall. A very beautiful wedding with lots of great stories and a reminder of the importance of community and support. The Bride and Groom wanted a hillbilly sound to the music, so we played pre-wedding music, a "Here Comes the Bride" on mandolin, a firey rendition of The Crawdad Song as they left the wedding and headed out down the aisle, and then our regular set of music during dinner and reception time. We had two fill-in musicians, Deb Shebish sat in on fiddle, and Rich Walters played banjo and Here Comes the Bride on mandolin. November is a slow month for us, so if you have any parties or events you need music for that month... we are open. Might do a bit of recording on these slow fall and early winter months. Maybe a CD in the Spring!!!
